Education

2018-2020

Ambedkar University Delhi

Master of Arts, Creative Writing

New Delhi

The MA in Literary Arts course enabled a sustained critical engagement with strategies of writing as well as contemporary critical theory. My work here including a full manuscript, research and a thesis, focused on postcolonial linguistic production and the politics of narrativising in the Urdu language through lexicons, with regard for and emphasis on queerness and the diverse histories of lexical writing. I took a keen interest in writing and researching environmental fiction here.

2015 - 2018

Indraprastha College for Women,

University of Delhi

Bachelor of Arts, Multi Media and Mass Communication

New Delhi

This course started an engagement with media theory and allowed me to experiment in content production through various mediums. I studied graphic design, multimedia production, video editing, brand design and marketing, PR, journalism, academic research as well as a broad range of academic courses on gender, environment and politics and enjoyed working in diverse, multi and interdisciplinary environments.

  • Designed, edited and published my department's annual magazine Pravah;

  • Helped establish, organise and conduct archiving as well as lessons in music theory in a music archival room as General Secretary of the MALR/Baithak Society;

  • Conceptualised and designed promotional content as Graphic Design Head of Parampara, the department's annual media festival.

  • Was on the Principal's Honour Roll for my contributions.

Volunteer Experience

Author & Copyeditor:

I have been a long-term beta reader/copyeditor for several fanfiction authors, supporting them through their story-writing process with proofreading, copyediting, editorial suggestions, research, etc. These authors write stories usually up to a hundred thousand words long, and helping them deal with the struggle of finishing their manuscripts (especially when all fanfiction is written free-of-cost, and without any editorial guidance) is where I come in. I strive to push for depth in each of these stories, and since a beta can choose their authors, I go for authors whose work I find relevant to the genre they are writing in (and I am familiar with). As an author myself, I prefer writing speculative, cross-genre fanfiction that allows me to experiment in writing styles (my prized contribution remains a magically realist story centred around pigeons during a Covid-19 crisis), and thoroughly enjoy the community engagement fanfiction platforms offer.
